Basement floors should also be properly ventilated to prevent mold growth. The best way to ensure that your basement won’t get damp is by installing a vapor barrier beneath the floorboards (usually on top of concrete subfloors) so that any moisture from outside cannot find its way into your home through cracks in the walls or floorboards. A second option is to cover this area with plywood or OSB before installing the hardwood planks over it; this will allow water vapor from within your house to escape while preventing any rainwater from getting inside through leaks in windows or doors (and causing damage).
